Description

Cricket has a known history beginning in the late 16th century. Having originated in south-east England, it became the country's national sport in the 18th century and has developed globally in the 19th and 20th centuries. International matches have been played since 1844 and test cricket began, retrospectively recognized, in 1877. Cricket is the world's second most popular spectator sport after association football (soccer). Governance is by the international cricket council (ICC) which has over one hundred countries and territories in membership although only eleven currently play test cricket. "Line and length" is the basic theory in cricket. When players are in the middle of the ground, whether a batsman or bowler, both must think about the line and length of the ball. Bowlers must bowl to the line. Batsmen must hit through the line of the ball. Fielders must catch the ball within its line. The "line" plays a major role in the field. This provided as the inspiration for the theme of the space. The color theme of the space is closely interconnected with cricket as well. The designer thought of the antiquity of cricket, and how it has reached spectators over the decades, first in black and white, and then in sepia (through television). Perspectives were also taken into consideration, as spectators view the cricket field as being "green" and lush as opposed to the players, who would have a different experience as they played through the dust and heat of the ground. All of these contexts were analyzed to come up with a color theme for the space. The design was inspired purely by cricket from the colors, textures, furniture, and to lighting. You can truly feel the spirit of cricket in this successfully designed cricket showroom.
